Sharper Impressions Painting has earned the Lead Safety Certification for home renovation, repair and painting. This lead safety certification is a new requirement of the EPA, Environmental Protection Agency, for spring 2010. It is imperative if a home is built before 1978, to use a painting contractor who is certified for Lead RRP (Renovation, Repair and Painting).

This certification ensures that Sharper Impressions Painting is educated and capable of testing your home for lead, quoting lead removal, and safely painting homes built before 1978. We are able to test for lead and then proceed to prepare, clean and paint the home properly. As a certified renovator for homes with lead present, we use proper containment procedures outlined by the EPA.

First of all, it is important for us to answer one crucial question: Why is lead dangerous to your family? Lead is very dangerous to children, and can cause damage to the brain and nervous system. Pregnant women are also in danger of the lead paint causing damage to their unborn child. Adults can be affected by having high blood pressure, and different types of physical fatigue. Lead exposure can cause permanent damage and should be properly prevented by using a certified paint contractor like Sharper Impressions Painting.

Sharper Impressions Painting has been taught the correct way to test for possible lead paint throughout the home. Surfaces that are suspected to have lead paint need to be scratched to the bare wood, ¼”, and the testing device should be used over the area to check for traces of lead. Once the test is complete, a formal lead sheet will be provided to the homeowner outlining any problem areas. If lead is present, the homeowner must sign the form acknowledging the issue before the paint contractor is able to move forward and start the painting project.

In order to contain lead on an interior painting jobsite, we cover everything in the room; including all vents, windows and doors that may be open, as well as taping all covers to the floor and walls to ensure no saturation into other areas. Containing lead on an exterior painting jobsite requires plastic sheets be spread out and taped to the wall, along with a barrier set up around the work area.

A certified painting contractor like Sharper Impressions Painting will test a home prior to painting to determine if lead is present. The painter will then contain the lead dust, water run off and chips, and proceed to apply two coats of safe, non-toxic waterbourne acrylic latex paint or stain on the home.

Sharper Impressions Painting has been helping transition homes from cold, dreary winter weather to warm summer days with several local painting projects. This time of year the most exciting projects for our customers are deck staining . Decks are the perfect spot for friends and family to come together and create great memories. While you sit back and enjoy the sun, we make sure your deck is beautiful, colorful and protected!

Our most recent deck staining project was completely covered in snow when I came out for the initial free painting quote.  As you can see below, not a good day for BBQ!

This deck staining project obviously needed to wait for warmer weather and a slight melting before we were able to move forward with the powerwashing . Once the spring weather finally arrived (YES!), we were able to start the preparations for the deck.

My painters had some problems with several spring birds that made their job a little more complicated. After the deck was cleaned, power washed and ready for staining, our painter returned to begin the project when he saw that it was covered in bird droppings. Turns out these birds were ready for the season too!  Our second attempt at cleaning was much more effective; 2 coats of new, rich stain resulted in a beautifully coated and weather resistant deck.

The homeowner, Mr. Goldman was thrilled to see the final product. He had spring fever when we started his project, (as we all did) and by completion he was ready to enjoy the weather on his freshly coated deck. We love making warm weather more enjoyable for all of our customers …and he didn’t have to lift a finger.  Now, that is the way it should be when you hire a great painter!

I  returned recently to take pictures for this article and my customer and I walked around looking at the final project on a sunny 80 degree day.  The customer did a great job planting some seasonal flowers, the new colors abound and the season is here.  BBQ anyone!?

We’re counting the days!

This February, the Sharper Impressions Painting team will gather in the great city of New Orleans for our annual meeting, affectionately known as “Paint-the-Brain.”

Paint_Brain_Logo
We’re all very excited to spend almost a full week there, enjoying the sites, music and great food. We’ve also made it a priority to show our concern for the city’s rebuilding efforts by taking a tour of the devastated areas. And, thanks to our strong connections with area paint suppliers, we’re able to make a substantial donation of Sharper time, money and Paint to support the Rebuilding Effort.

If there’s one thing the Sharper Impressions Painting team knows about, it’s the value of a home – a safe home that you can share with your family and be proud of. We hope our donation will help some families continue to heal as they rebuild their homes and their lives.

It’s always a valuable time for us to get together to review the past year and plan for the future. This year is especially exciting for us as we celebrate continued growth in sales and quality with some amazing advances in technology.

Christmas 2009…

This past holiday season was extra special for all of us here at Sharper Impressions Painting. We found out about a wonderful family in our area who was faced with some very tough times. Christmas would not be full of joy for them. Both parents had lost their jobs and things were looking pretty grim. In spite of their troubles, they remained thankful for each other and their health. They put on as happy a face as they could.

We decided we could make it better.

This is what "thank-you" looks like! Nice!

(Check out all the photos and view the family’s “thank-you” video)

Everyone at Sharper Impressions Painting—from support staff to District Managers, even some of our awesome suppliers—pitched in to donate enough money to buy gifts for this family of five. Even better, they took time out of their busy holiday schedules to focus on the needs of others. In doing so, I think we all stumbled upon the true meaning of Christmas.

As the saying goes: ‘Tis better to give than to receive.

How true! Our dear friends sent us a heartfelt thank-you video. It brought us all to tears. Mostly because, we are the ones who feel thankful… for the opportunity to know the true meaning of Christmas.

Happy New Year!
